Posted February 13th, 2019

Texas golfer Cole Hammer, a freshman, has three top-25 finishes to start his collegiate career, leading to the Friends of Golf and Golf Coaches Association of America adding him to the Ben Hogan Award watch list.

Last weekend, Hammer recorded his best finish at a tournament thus far, fourth place, at the Amer Ari Invitational in Hawaii.

Hammer won the 2018 Western Amateur Championship and was the 2018 U.S. Four Ball Amateur Champion. He also won the 2018 Azalea Amateur Championship, and then he was the U.S. Amateur co-medalist and semifinalist.

The Ben Hogan Award goes to the amateur and collegiate golfer of the year. It takes into account all college, amateur and professional events played from last summer through May of this year. The award will be presented to the winner before the Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth later this year.
