The Longhorns made it four wins in four games at the Texas Invitational, beating Mississippi 3-2 and Tulsa 2-0 Saturday.
Shealyn O’Leary and Miranda Elish combined to shut out the Golden Hurricane, allowing four hits. O’Leary picked up the win, allowing two hits through five innings to improve to 5-0. Elish struck out two in two innings to earn the save.
A bunt by Kaitlyn Slack drove home Shannon Rhodes to make it 1-0 in the second inning. Reagan Hathaway drove in a run on a single to center field later in the inning for the final run of the game. She finished 2-for-2 with an RBI and a double.
A three-run sixth inning powered Texas over Mississippi. Rhodes singled to score Lauren Burke and put the Longhorns over the top. Bekah Alcozer doubled earlier in the inning to score Tuesday DerMargosian and Janae Jefferson, tying the game.
O’Leary earned the win, pitching three scoreless innings while allowing one hit. She struck out two.
Brooke Bolinger started for the Longhorns, but two mistakes led to Mississippi taking a 2-0 lead. Autumn Gillespie hit a home run in the second inning to put the Rebels up 1-0. Abbey Latham made it 2-0 with a home run in the fourth.
Jefferson went 2-for-3 and was the only Longhorn to have multiple hits in the game.
The Texas Invitational concludes Sunday. The Longhorns play Mississippi once again at 10 a.m.
