Elish allowed four runs on five hits and struck out a career-high 14 batters in the complete-game victory. She got things started early for Texas, driving in a run in the top of the second. Kaitlyn Washington scored on the RBI single.

A five-run third inning helped the Longhorns take complete control of the contest. Iakopo started it with an RBI single, Burke drove in another run and Elish doubled to score three more.

Iakopo hit a two-run homer in the next inning before Burke hit a solo shot. The back-to-back home runs made Texas history. It’s the first time the Longhorns had back-to-back home runs in two games on the same day.

Shannon Rhodes made it 10-2 in the top of the seventh on an RBI single that scored Reagan Hathaway. Texas drove in one more run later in the inning to cap the scoring.

Morgan Howe provided one of the few highlights for the Sun Devils (13-5), hitting a two-run homer in the bottom of the third to keep Arizona State in the contest.

The Longhorns softball squad has two games Saturday. They take on Princeton at 11 a.m. before facing Wisconsin at 1:30 p.m.

Texas concludes action at the Sun Devil Classic with one more game against Arizona State Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
