Christian Sigsgaard honored by Big 12 as he moves up ITA rankings

Christian Sigsgaard earned the honor of Big 12 tennis player of the week after beating No. 5 Jan Zielinski of Georgia in a Texas dual match victory.

Sigsgaard also moved up to No. 4 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association singles rankings which were released Tuesday. He was ranked eighth when he defeated Zielinski.

Sigsgaard has five wins over ranked opponents during dual match play. He has 15 wins when tournament play is factored in. Sigsgaard’s performance at first singles has helped the Longhorns attain a 13-1 record and a No. 3 ITA ranking.

In addition to Sigsgaard, Yuya Ito and Harrison Scott also listed in the ITA singles rankings. Ito is also in the top 10, ranking No. 9 as he moved up three spots. Scott got a 10-spot bump, checking in at No. 14.

Scott and Sigsgaard also have a spot in the doubles rankings, listed at No. 13. They moved up 26 spots.

Only Texas has two singles players ranked in the top 10.

Texas and No. 1 Ohio State are the only teams to have three players ranked in the top 50 in singles and a doubles pair ranked in the top 15.
