The Texas softball team came up short twice on the first day of the Big 12 Tournament in Oklahoma City, falling 6-2 to Oklahoma State and 2-0 to Iowa State.

The losses mean Texas is out of the running for the title and will only compete in a placing game Saturday.

Talyn Lewis’ two-run home run was all Iowa State needed to beat the Longhorns in their second game.

Emma Hylen pitched a shutout without registering a strikeout for the Cyclones. She gave up five hits and walked one.

Brooke Bolinger suffered the loss, allowing both runs on two hits in 3 1/3 innings.

Shannon Rhodes went 2-for-3 with a double, but that wasn’t enough.

The Longhorns had a two-run lead going into the sixth inning of the first game, but Oklahoma State scored six runs in the bottom half of the inning on the way to the win.

Cheyenne Factor’s single drove in a run for the Cowgirls to get things started. Sydney Springfield hit a two-run single to put Oklahoma State up by a run later in the inning. A double by Kiley Naomi and a two-run single by Chelsea Alexander rounded out the big inning for Oklahoma State.

Kaitlyn Washington doubled to score Ki’Audra Hayter and Reagan Hathaway in the fourth inning, but that’s all the Longhorns would get.

Miranda Elish suffered the loss as she allowed all six runs on six hits through 5 1/3 innings.

UPDATE (5/11): Weather has cancelled the end of UT’s appearance in the Big 12 tournament.
