Longhorns track and field to send 45 entries to NCAA West Preliminaries

The Longhorns have a total of 45 entries in the NCAA West Preliminaries, it was announced Thursday.

The competition will take place at Hornet Stadium in Sacramento, Calif., on May 23-25. To qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships, competitors must finish in the top 12 of their event at the preliminaries.

Ashtin Zamzow has already qualified for the NCAA Championships with the nation’s top score in the heptathlon. Teahna Daniels, Kynnedy Flannel and Julien Alfred lead the 28 UT women competing at the preliminaries. The trio will compete in the 200 meters, and Daniels and Alfred also will run in 100. Zamzow will compete at the preliminaries in the javelin and 100-meter hurdles.

For the men, Trevor Danielson has the third-best mark in the javelin at the West Preliminaries. John Burt will compete in the 110-meter hurdles, and Tripp Piperi will be in the shot put. He has the fourth-best mark in his event going into the competition. Sam Worley also is fourth-best in his event, the 1,500 meters.
