Quartet of Longhorns opens competition at Arnold Palmer Cup

Three Texas golfers helped the United States take an 8-4 lead at the Arnold Palmer Cup in Roland, Ark., on Friday to open competition.

Hailee Cooper and Kaitlyn Papp each took victories in their mixed four-ball matches. Cole Hammer served as Cooper’s partner in the opening day victory.

Cooper and Hammer defeated Jiwon Jeon and Keita Nakajima 2 and 1. Papp and her partner Peter Kuest won 3 and 1 over Sofia Garcia and Ivan Ramirez.

Another Longhorn, Agathe Laisne, also competed, teaming up with Chun An Yu for the international team. They fell to Austin Eckroat and Malia Nam 1 up.

Mixed foursomes and foursomes will highlight the second day of action.

Singles matches conclude the competition Sunday.
