Summer sessions: An update on the Longhorns playing in collegiate wood bat leagues

Instead of the beach or a campsite, some of Texas’ Longhorns are spending their summer vacations at a baseball field.

This summer, Texas has sent a handful of its players to participate in various collegiate wood bat leagues across the country. Second baseman Lance Ford has been responsible for one of UT’s biggest highlights thus far. Ford is hitting .282 this summer for Duluth, but he did not pick up a bat in a 7-3 loss to the Waterloo Bucks on June 11. The one-time quarterback and pitcher at Kerrville Tivy High instead struck out the side in an inning-long appearance out of the bullpen.
