Summer sessions: An update on the Longhorns playing in collegiate wood bat leagues

Instead of the beach or a campsite, some of Texas’ Longhorns are spending their summer vacations at a baseball field.

This summer, Texas has sent a handful of its players to participate in various collegiate wood bat leagues across the country.¬†Second baseman Lance Ford has been responsible for one of UT’s biggest highlights thus far. Ford is hitting .282 this summer for Duluth, but he did not pick up a bat in a 7-3 loss to the¬†Waterloo Bucks on June 11. The one-time quarterback and pitcher at Kerrville Tivy High instead struck out the side in an inning-long appearance out of the bullpen.
