Texas fell short in its pursuit of four-star safety prospect Bryson Washington on Thursday when the C.E. King product picked Oklahoma over the Longhorns. The 6-2, 196-pound prospect is ranked No. 30 on the 2020 Fabulous 55. He’s the 15th-best safety in the nation, per 247Sports composite rankings. He held 24 offers and was a long-time target of Texas safety coach Craig Naivar. Washington is Oklahoma’s ninth commitment from Texas in the 2020 class.

Washington is one of six true safeties to hold a Texas offer in the 2020 cycle. The Longhorns haven’t yet gained a commitment at the position in the class. The top targets remaining include Chris Thompson Jr. and Lathan Ransom. Both spoke highly of the Texas program during their time at The Opening Finals in Frisco last weekend. Texas wants at least two safeties in the cycle.
