For the second straight week, Texas is ranked third in the AVCA’s national poll.

Despite losing for the first time this season, Texas did enough in its appearances against No. 1 Stanford and No. 8 Minnesota to stay put in the AVCA poll. On Wednesday, the Longhorns outlasted Minnesota in a 25-22, 29-27, 35-33 triumph in Gregory Gym. Texas then dropped a five-set battle at Stanford on Sunday.

Texas was joined in the upper echelon of the AVCA poll by conference rival Baylor, which was ranked fifth.

On Monday, it was also announced that UT freshman middle blocker Molly Phillips had been named the Big 12’s newcomer of the week. In the Stanford match, Phillips had 11 kills and seven blocks.

Texas (3-1) will appear in Wichita State’s Shocker Volleyball Classic this weekend. UT is set to face No. 13 BYU (5-1), which eliminated UT from last year’s NCAA tournament, on Friday. Awaiting on Saturday will be the host Shockers (3-3).
