The Texas women’s basketball team was picked to finish second in the Big 12’s preseason poll, which was released by the conference on Thursday.

Baylor topped the preseason poll for the third time in the last four years. Nine of the conference’s 10 head coaches awarded their first-place votes to the Bears. (Baylor coach Kim Mulkey, who was not allowed to pick for her own team, voted for Texas). Baylor is the NCAA’s defending champion.

West Virginia earned the third-most votes in the preseason poll. Iowa State and Kansas State, which both joined Baylor and Texas in last year’s NCAA tournament, were picked to finish fourth and fifth.

Texas went 23-10 during its 2018-19 campaign. The Longhorns finished in third place in the Big 12 standings, which was the program’s worst finish in four seasons.

On Wednesday, three Longhorns earned preseason accolades from the Big 12. Texas will travel to South Florida on Nov. 8 for its season opener.
