Coming off last season’s NIT championship, Texas was picked to finished fourth this season by the Big 12 men’s basketball coaches, according to the preseason poll released Thursday.

The Longhorns did not have anyone named to the preseason All-Big 12 team, although guard Matt Coleman did earn honorable mention status.

Kansas received eight of the 10 available first-place votes in the preseason poll. The Jayhawks have captured all or a share of 18 of the last 23 league championships. Baylor was picked to finish second and Texas Tech was third.

West Virginia was picked to finish fifth, according to the coaches. Oklahoma state, Iowa State, Oklahoma, Kansas State and TCU were picked sixth through 10th, respectively.

Big 12 men’s basketball media day is scheduled for Wednesday at Sprint Center in Kansas City, Mo. One of the biggest questions next week will be UT guard Courtney Ramey’s health status. Ramey suffered a wrist injury that has kept him out of recent practices, although UT trainers do not believe he will miss any games.

Texas is scheduled to open the season on Nov. 5 against Northern Colorado.
