The Texas men’s golf team captured the East Lake Cup, defeating Oklahoma State 3-2 in Atlanta, Ga. on Wednesday.
Three Longhorns won their matches to seal the title. Parker Coody, Spencer Soosman and Travis Vick all notched wins.
“I’m really excited for our guys,” head coach John Fields said. “We know we’re a good team, but we just hadn’t seen anything positive.”
They saw something positive during stroke play, finishing at the top of the leaderboard, and match play.
Soosman won 5 and 3 while Vick and Coody both won 1 up. Vick’s victory closed out the match.
“The weather was really, really tough,” Vick said. “It was a little bit windy and it was rainy, so there’s a lot of towels being wet and little factors that come into play. So being able to come out on top and for our team to win is really neat.”
The Texas men’s golf team will take some time off before starting back up in February at the Amer Ari Invitational in Hawaii.
