Ahead of this season, Texas and Iowa State were picked to finish second and third in the Big 12’s preseason poll. Entering this week, the Longhorns (5-3; 3-2 Big 12) and Cyclones (5-3; 3-2) are tied for third place in the conference standings.
Before they can start focusing on each other, Texas and Iowa State’s unranked programs must both take on ranked foes this weekend. Texas has a home game scheduled against No. 20 Kansas State (6-2; 3-2) on Saturday afternoon. (Texas is coming off a loss to TCU on Oct. 26 that also kicked off at 2:30 p.m.) Meanwhile, Iowa State is set to see No. 9 Oklahoma (7-1; 4-1) in Norman, Okla.
Texas and Iowa State have played 16 times before. The Longhorns have been victorious in 14 of those meetings. Iowa State’s last victory in the series was a 24-0 trouncing in Ames in 2015. Since that shutout, Texas has posted 27-6, 17-7 and 24-10 wins over the Cyclones.
