For the third straight week, Gregory Gym will be the home of the the top-ranked team is the poll compiled by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

This marks UT’s longest run atop the AVCA poll since it earned that No. 1 designation on seven straight occurrences during the 2013 season. Fifty of the poll’s 64 first-place votes this week were cast for Texas (17-2). Last week, Texas led the way with 47 first-place votes.

For the third week in the row, Texas was followed in the poll by Pittsburgh (25-1) and Baylor (20-1). Stanford (18-4) and Minnesota (19-3), which were ranked fifth and sixth last week, rounded out the top-five.

Texas only played once this past week. On Friday, the Longhorns earned a 3-1 victory at rival Oklahoma. The Longhorns had a 31-set winning streak snapped in the match, but the team went onto record its 12th straight victory.

This week, Texas will host both Kansas State and TCU. Kansas State, which will be Gregory Gym’s guest on Wednesday, is 8-15 this season. TCU has won eight of its 21 matches. Texas swept both teams earlier this season.

“I think Kansas State is a solid team that has the ability to break out and play really well,” Texas coach Jerritt Elliott said on Monday. “They’ve shown that in past but their record hasn’t reflected that. We’re going to have a lot of respect for them.”

Continued Elliott: “TCU, obviously, has (sophomore outside hitter Ă©lan) McCall back. She didn’t play the first time, at least in the front court. We had a really difficult time blocking them last time, they just tooled us off the court. I think we’ve become a better team since them so I’m excited to see how we do the second time around with them.”
