The Longhorns and Aggies no longer face off on the football field. That hasn’t ended the rivalry, however, especially on the recruiting trail. Texas scored a major victory Friday afternoon when four-star safety Xavion Alford picked Tom Herman’s program over the one ran by Jimbo Fisher. The 6-0, 182-pounder from Alvin Shadow Creek is the eighth-ranked safety in the 2020 class and No. 15 on the 2020 Fabulous 55.

Alford is the 16th pledge in the 2020 class, and the second at safety, joining four-star Lufkin native Jerrin Thompson. Alford is the most versatile defensive back in the state. He can play corner, safety or nickel. He was a first-team all-district selection after recording 61 tackles and six interceptions in 2018. He helped lead Shadow Creek to a state championship game appearance in Class 5A Division I.
