The No. 7 Texas women’s tennis team made it a clean sweep of Iowa, defeating the Hawkeyes 4-0 at the Texas Tennis Center on Friday during the ITA Kickoff Weekend.
The Longhorns won the doubles point and three singles matches to seal the win.
Fernanda Labraña won the clinching match, defeating Danielle Bauers 6-0, 6-2.
Every singles victory came in straight sets for Texas.
The match started with doubles, and Texas won twice to seal the point. Labraña and Marta Perez Mur defeated Ashleigh Jacobs and Bauers 6-2 for the deciding win after Adri Nagy and Lexi Ryngler teamed up to beat Samantha Mannix and Danielle Burch 6-1.
Tijana Spasojevic kept the Longhorns in front with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Burch to make the match 2-0.
Anna Turati, ranked No. 4, beat Mannix 6-2, 6-0 to set up Labraña’s match-sealing victory.
Texas will continue the ITA event with a match against LSU at 2 p.m. Saturday. The Tigers beat Texas Tech 4-1 Friday at the Texas Tennis Center. The Hawkeyes will face Texas Tech in the consolation match at 2 p.m. Saturday as well.
The ITA Kickoff Weekend takes place at 15 sites with the winners of each competition advancing to the ITA Division I National Team Indoor Championships in February in Chicago.
