The No. 1 Texas men’s tennis team improved to 3-0 as it swept Indiana 4-0 in its home opener Saturday to advance to the ITA Kickoff championship match.
The Longhorns won the doubles point and three singles matches to take the win. They’ll face Florida State at noon Sunday at the Texas Tennis Center.
Chih Chi Huang and Cleeve Harper came up big in the third match tiebreaker for the doubles point. They defeated Patrick Fletchall and Payam Ahmadi 7-6 (4) to make it 1-0 for Texas.
Christian Sigsgaard and Yuya Ito had the other doubles win for Texas.
Ito, ranked No. 2, also clinched the overall victory with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Zac Brodney.
Siem Woldeab opened the singles action with a 6-1, 6-2 win over William Pierkarsky.
Eliot Spizzirri beat Fletchall 6-1, 6-3 to make it 3-0 for Texas, setting up Ito’s clinching victory.
If Texas beats No. 21 Florida State, it will advance to the ITA Indoor Nationals for the third year in a row.
