Texas was represented by pitcher Bryce Elder and outfielder Eric Kennedy on the Big 12’s preseason baseball team, which was released on Wednesday.

The preseason team honored 20 players from seven of the Big 12’s nine baseball programs. Baylor infielder Nick Loftin (player of the year) and Oklahoma’s Cade Cavalli (pitcher of the year) earned two of the superlatives that were voted on by the league’s coaches. Oklahoma State’s Kaden Polcovich and Bryce Osmond were respectively recognized as the conference’s top newcomer and freshman.

Despite Cavalli’s crowning, Elder was the only pitcher to earn a unanimous spot on the preseason team. During his sophomore season, Elder compiled a 2.93 ERA and 86 strikeouts. Elder posted a 2-4 record, but he logged nine quality starts and held his own in duels against first-round draft picks Nick Lodolo and Alek Manoah.

Cavalli was 5-3 with a 3.28 ERA and 59 strikeouts in 2019.

As a freshman, Kennedy led Texas with his .310 batting average. Over his 49 appearances — 46 of which were starts — Kennedy scored 41 times and drove in 28 runs.
