Texas’ 2021 class dropped to six members Tuesday night when Lake Travis tight end Lake McRee decommitted from the Longhorns. The 6-4, 217-pound junior missed the 2019 season with a knee injury. The three-star originally picked Texas back in July before the beginning of his junior campaign. McRee recently picked up offers from Alabama and Auburn. He said his decision to decommit was to do research on more programs, while Texas remains in the mix.
While I have much respect for the University of Texas, after talking with my family I’ve decided to reopen my recruitment.

Texas holds a commitment from three-star Juan Davis of Everman. He’s listed as an athlete, but likely ends up at tight end. The Longhorns hope to sign two tight ends in the 2021 cycle after not signing a true tight end in 2020. McRee is one of eight tight ends offered by Texas’ staff. The Longhorns are in the mix for in-state targets like Var’Keyes Gumms and Landen King.
