Wash your hands.
Wear a mask.
Those were among the suggestions shared by Texas football coach Tom Herman in a public service announcement on Monday. The 33-second PSA was released by the governor’s office. In the video, Herman states that “we need a team effort to stop COVID-19.” He added that Texans should wash their hands, engage in social distancing, wear masks and stay home.
Herman’s PSA — which was entitled “The Power of Teamwork — was published as the number of confirmed coronavirus cases continue to rise in Texas. On Sunday, Travis County reset its personal record when 636 new cases were reported. Surging numbers across the state have forced local and state leaders to back off of reopening plans.
Herman’s own team has also been impacted by the coronavirus. On June 18, Texas announced that 13 of its football players had either tested positive for the coronavirus or were presumed to have the disease. An additional 10 players were self-isolating after they were determined to be asymptomatic.
UT’s football players were allowed to begin voluntary workouts on June 15. Texas has not released any new information about its coronavirus testing since June 18.
