Texas freshman Alexa Adams scored her second straight brace and goalie Abby Smith tied UT’s career shutout record in the Longhorns’ 3-0 win over TCU Sunday at Myers Stadium.
It was Smith’s fifth shutout of the season and the 29th of her career, tying Dianna Pfenninger’s school record.
Adams gave Texas the lead in the eighth minute and scored her fifth goal of the season in the 61st.
“The finishes this afternoon were some of the best I’ve seen. ” said head coach Angela Kelly. “As a freshman, scoring four goals…I’d like to hear about someone in the country doing that this weekend against quality opponents.”
Texas (6-3-4) has won three of its past four conference matches and improved to 3-1-1 in the Big 12. TCU fell to 8-7 and 2-3.
Adams put Texas ahead at the 7:58 mark when she kicked a left-footed bender from 22 yards out that went past TCU keeper Shannon Coffer. UT’s Kelsey Shimmick got a one-on-one with Coffer in the 21st minute and sent a right-footed poke past the keeper into the right side from 10 yards out.
Adams got a turnover in the 61st minute and beat Coffer to put Texas up 3-0. It was the most goals scored by the Longhorns this season.
