Texas junior Chiaka Ogbogu had a career high 15 kills in the Longhorns’ 25-21, 25-12, 25-23 sweep of Santa Clara Friday night at the Texas Classic at Gregory Gym.
Ogbogu hit .609 and led the team with five blocks. UT’s Amy Neal added 14 kills with two aces and five digs. Neal has tallied double-digit kills in all seven of Texas’ matches this season.
The Longhorns (6-1) hit .336 for the match and held Santa Clara (6-3) to a .200 hitting percentage.
Texas went ahead 8-3 in the first set, but the Broncos fought back to tie it at 9-9. Texas broke a 16-16 tie and held the lead the rest of the set.
UT started the second set on a 13-3 run and stretched the lead to 12 at 21-9. Texas hit .643 in the second set and won it 25-12.
Santa Clara took an 8-4 lead in the third set, and held the lead until a kill by Ogbogu put Texas ahead 21-20. Texas went up by two after an ace by Cat McCoy and Ogbogu closed the set with three straight kills.
Texas will face No. 14 Colorado State in the final match of the Texas Classic on Sunday at 3 p.m. at Gregory Gym.
