The No. 3 Texas volleyball team swept the Oklahoma Sooners 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-17) in Norman, Okla. to win the Big 12 title outright for the fifth time in a row. Molly McCage, Amy Neal and Kat Brooks earned their fourth straight title as seniors, joining Haley Eckerman and Khat Bell as the only Longhorns to achieve the feat.
Paulina Prieto Cerame tied her career high with 21 kills while Neal had 15 on a .444 hitting percentage. The Longhorns outhit the Sooners .367 to .173.
Yaasmeen Bedart-Ghani and Chiaka Ogbogu led a solid defensive effort, combining for 13 blocks. Bedart-Ghani had a career-high seven blocks in the match. Cat McCoy had 18 digs while Neal had ten.
Chloe Collins assisted on 44 points.
Texas utilized a 4-0 run in the first set to hold off the Sooners late. Ogbogu closed the set with a kill to put the Longhorns up 1-0.
Oklahoma (12-16, 6-10 Big 12) took a 4-1 lead in the second set, but Neal put up a three-point run to put the Longhorns up 8-7. Later in the set a 7-2 run put the Longhorns in full control, eventually taking the set 25-16.
Another 7-2 run, this time to start the third set, put the Longhorns in the driver’s seat early. They took the final set 25-17 for their ninth Big 12 title, their 22nd conference title overall.
The Longhorns end the regular season at 25-2, 15-1 in the Big 12. Texas will now wait to for the NCAA Tournament Selection Show on Sunday to find out who they will play to start the NCAA Tournament. The show will be televised on ESPNU at 8 p.m.
