Starting quarterback David Ash, who missed last week’s loss to Ole Miss with a concussion, has been cleared to play against Kansas State, the Longhorns announced Friday.
The news was not a surprise, since Ash returned to practice on Wednesday and had two full practices this week.
With Ash back, Case McCcoy resumes his role as the backup quarterback after starting against Mississippi. Freshman Tyrone Swoopes becomes the No. 3, emergency quarterback.
Whether Ash will be able to team up Saturday with Mike Davis remains uncertain. Davis, the Longhorns’ leading receiver who is nursing an ankle injury incurred against Ole Miss, is one of four players listed as a game-time decision. Others are starting right guard Mason Walters, starting right tackle Josh Cochran and middle linebacker Dalton Santos.
The Longhorns and Kansas State open Big 12 play Saturday at 7 p.m. in Royal-Memorial Stadium.
