Texas pledges in action: Week 4

Here’s how each 2014 Texas pledge performed in Week 4 and what lies ahead for the future Longhorns in Week 5 of the Texas high school football season. (* denotes district games)

QB Jerrod Heard – No. 6 Denton Guyer (5-4A)
Overall: 2-2 District: 1-0
Last week:  Heard overcame two first-half interceptions to lead No. 6 Guyer to a 41-10 win over Azle in its 5-4A opener. Heard finished 10-of-13 for 191 yards, three touchdowns and the two interceptions – he also ran for 69 yards on 13 carries.
*This week: vs. Denton 2-2 (0-1)
Season: 46/71, 738 yards, 6 TD, 4 Int; 68 rush, 468 yards, 4 TD

DE Derick Roberson – No. 2 San Antonio Brennan (28-4A)
Overall: 5-0 District: 1-0
Last week: The Brennan defense tallied its fourth shutout in five games in a 62-0 win over 28-4A opponent Edison. The Brennan defense allowed just 65 total yards on the day; it’s allowing only 84.6 total yards per game through five games.
*This week: vs. San Antonio Brackenridge, 3-2 (1-0)

WR Armanti Foreman/RB D’Onta Foreman – No. 5 Texas City (24-4A)
Overall: 4-0 District 1-0
Last week: Texas City jumped Guyer in the latest AP poll after beating Goose Creek Memorial 42-16 in Week 4. D’Onta Foreman ran 10 times for 224 yards and four touchdowns and brother Armanti caught seven passes for 119 yards and another score. The Texas City offense has scored over 40 points in each of its four games.
*This week: vs. No. 9 Pearland Dawson 4-0 (1-0)
Season: Armanti: 18 rec, 319 yards, 4 TD; 4 rush, 40 yards
Season: D’Onta: 47 rush, 577 yards, 13 TD

RB Donald Catalon – Aldine Eisenhower (18-5A)
Overall: 1-4 District 1-0
Last week: Eisenhower won its first game of the season in its district opener by topping MacArthur 24-8. Catalon ran for 118 yards on 18 carries and doubled his season touchdown total with two scores on the day.
*This week: at Alief Hastings 1-4 (0-1)
Season: 59 rush, 396 yards, 4 TD

S John Bonney – No. 5 Houston Lamar (20-5A)
Overall: 4-0 District: 1-0
Last week: After last week’s rain out, fifth-ranked Lamar got back in action with a 55-0 drubbing of Houston Westbury. The Redskin defense has allowed only 16 points through four games, including two shoutouts.
*This week: at Houston Westside 4-1 (1-0)
Season: 14 tackles, 1 INT, 4 passes defended

LB Otaro Alaka – Cy Falls (17-5A)
Overall: 1-3 District: 1-2
Last week: The Eagles picked up their first win of the season with a 32-25 win over Jersey Village. Cy Falls scored a 48-yard touchdown with under a minute remaining in the fourth to eke out a win over the 1-3 Falcons.
*This week: vs. Houston Langham Creek 2-2 (1-2)

WR Lorenzo Joe – Abilene Cooper (2-5A)
Overall: 3-2 District 2-1
Last week: Joe gained 338 yards – 95 passing, 243 rushing – of total offense and scored three rushing touchdowns to help Cooper squeak past Odessa in a lightning-delayed game, 42-31. Cooper was down 31-28 entering the final quarter but scored the game’s final 14 points to get the win.
*This week: vs. Abilene 1-4 (1-2)
Season: 53/104, 975 yards, 5 TD, 2 INT; 85 rush, 615 yards, 8 TD

RB Kevin Shorter – No. 2 Newton (10-2A Division 1)
Overall: 3-0 District 0-0
Last week: Newton registered its biggest win of the season with a 64-8 pounding of Warren in Week 4. Shorter rushed only four times for 20 yards and a touchdown – he also had one reception for a 12-yard score – in a game Newton led 53-0 at halftime.
*This week: at Kirbyville 3-1 (1-0)
Season: 43 rush, 519 yards, 7 TD; 6 rec, 99 yards, 2 TD

C Terrell Cuney – Jasper (20-3A)
Overall: 1-2 District: 0-0
Last week: Off
This week: vs. Bridge City (21-3A); 1-3 (0-1)
Season: N/A

DE Sione Teuhema – Keller (4-5A)
Overall: 3-1 District: 0-1
Last week: Keller gave up the most points its allowed this season when it dropped its district-opener to undefeated Justin Northwest 31-17.
*This week: at Keller Central 1-3 (0-1)
Season: N/A

LB Cameron Hampton – Dallas Carter (11-4A)
Overall: 4-0 District: 1-0
Last week: Carter registered another blowout win in Week 4, a 33-9 decision over Kimball. The Cowboys held Kimball to under 200 total yards in the win.
*This week: at Dallas Adamson 3-1 (0-1)
Season: N/A

DL Jake McMillon – Abilene (2-5A)
Overall: 1-4 District: 1-2
Last week: The rough season continued for Abilene in Week 4 with a 32-10 loss to San Angelo Central. The Eagles were outgained 408-233. Abilene has averaged just 12.75 points per game in its four losses.
*This week: at Abilene Cooper 3-2 (2-1)

WR Garrett Gray – Marble Falls (25-4A)
Overall: 2-2 District: 0-0
Last week: Off
*This week: at No. 8 Cedar Park 4-1 (1-0)
Season: 29 rec, 475 yards, 9 TD

DT Trey Lealaimatafao – San Antonio Warren (27-5A)
Overall: 3-2 District: 2-1
Last week: Warren outlasted San Antonio Marshall 41-30 to move to 2-1 in 27-5A play.
*This week: vs. San Antonio Holmes 0-4 (0-2)
Season: 24 tackles, 3 TFL

WR Emanuel Porter – Dallas Lincoln (12-4A)
Overall: 2-2 District: 1-0
Last week: Lincoln has won two straight since starting the season 0-2 after a 34-0 win over Dallas Conrad in its 12-4A opener. Porter had only one catch, an 18-yard touchdown.
*This week: at Dallas Wilson, 3-1 (1-0)
Season: 15 rec, 264 yards, 5 TD

WR Dorian Leonard – Longview (12-5A)
Overall: 4-1 District: 1-0
Last week: Longview jumped into the “also receiving votes” category in this week’s AP poll after its fourth straight win, a 69-17 rout of Mesquite. Leonard scored three touchdowns and gained 107 yards on four receptions.
*This week: at Rockwall-Heath 4-1 (0-1)
Season: 23 rec, 300 yards, 5 TD

WR Roderick Bernard – Houston Sharpstown (21-4A)
Overall: 2-3 District: 1-2
Last week: Sharpstown lost 45-20 to North Forest to drop to 1-2 in district play.
*This week: vs. Houston Wheatley 1-3 (1-1)

S Jason Hall – South Grand Prairie (7-5A)
Overall: 2-3 District: 0-2
Last week: South Grand Prairie was no match for DeSoto, 5A’s third-ranked team. The Warriors were pounded 50-0 and dropped to 0-2 in district play.
