2014

QB Jerrod Heard – No. 7 Denton Guyer (5-4A)
Overall: 10-2 District: 7-0
Last week: Guyer had little trouble with Waco in a 42-13 win. The Wildcats went to a ground-heavy attack with Jerrod Heard pitching in 99 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries. He was 5-of-6 for just 26 yards and another score passing.

DE Derick Roberson – No. 2 San Antonio Brennan (28-4A)
Overall: 12-0 District: 7-0
Last week: The Bears have outscored their first two playoff opponents 111-0. The Bear defense held Austin McCallum to just 93 total yards.

WR Armanti Foreman/RB D’Onta Foreman – No. 4 Texas City (24-4A)
Overall: 12-0 District 7-0
Last week: The Stingarees breezed past Fort Bend Ridge Point with a 28-0 win. The Foreman brothers scored two touchdowns and gained a combined 249 yards of offense in the win.

S John Bonney – No. 5 Houston Lamar (20-5A)
Overall: 11-0 District: 6-0
Last week: Lamar pitched a shutout in the Area round, topping Alief Taylor 36-0. Bonney and the Redskin defense held Taylor to 118 total yards. They’ll now get a tough test from one-loss Pearland in the regionals.

WR Lorenzo Joe – Abilene Cooper (2-5A)
Overall: 8-4 District 5-3
Last week: Joe, dealing with a broken bone in his non-throwing hand, had a relatively quiet day in Cooper’s 45-24 win over Arlington Lamar, completing only 3 of 5 passes for 33 yards and rushing for 125 on 13 attempts, though he did score four touchdowns on the ground.
5AD2 Regional round: vs. Cedar Hill 10-2 (6-1); Saturday at Memorial Stadium (Stephenville)
Season: 89/187, 1,751 yards, 12 TD, 5 INT; 176 rush, 1,558 yards, 22 TD

RB Kevin Shorter – No. 2 Newton (10-2A Division 1)
Overall: 10-0 District 7-0
Last week: Shorter will sit for the remainder of the season after suffering a concussion and a spinal cord injury in Week 6. Newton kept things going without its star running back in a 74-21 win over Whitney in the 2A area round.
2AD1 Regional round: vs. White Oak 11-1 (4-1); Friday at Lufkin, TX
Season (6 games): 61 rush, 630 yards, 9 TD; 11 rec, 224 yards, 4 TD

C Terrell Cuney – Jasper (20-3A)
Overall: 7-3 District: 3-1
Last week: Cuney helped pave the way for the Bulldogs to rush for 435 yards and seven rushing touchdowns. Jasper now moves on to play one of the best 3A teams in the state, West Orange-Stark.
3AD1 Regional round: vs. West Orange-Stark 10-1 (6-0); Friday at Turner Stadium (Humble)

WR Dorian Leonard – No. 13 Longview (12-5A)
Overall: 11-1 District: 6-0
Last week: Leonard caught two passes for 28 yards, including a 13-yard touchdown in Longview’s 27-10 win over McKinney Boyd. The Lobos were down 10-7 at the half, but scored three touchdowns in under three minutes to take control of the area round game.
5AD2 Regional round: vs. A&M Consolidated 9-2 (5-1); Saturday at MISD Stadium (Midlothian)
Season: 34 rec, 643 yards, 10 TD

2015

 

OL Patrick Vahe – No. 14 Euless Trinity (6-5A)

Overall: 9-2 District: 7-0

Last week: Trinity hasn’t scored under 40 points since the calendar turned to October. The Trojans advance to the regionals after a 42-21 win over Mansfield Timberview. Trinity threw only five passes on the day behind Vahe and the OL, who paved the way for 386 rushing yards.

5AD2 Regional round: vs. Southlake Carroll 11-1 (7-0); Friday at AT&T Stadium (Arlington)

RB Jordan Stevenson – No. 17 South Oak Cliff (11-4A)

Overall: 11-1 District: 6-1

Last week: Stevenson gained 232 yards on the ground and scored three touchdowns in the Bears’ 63-37 win over Frisco Centennial. South Oak Cliff ran out to a quick 28-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back.

4AD1 Regional round: vs. Wylie 8-4 (5-2); Friday at Eagle Stadium (Allen)

Season: 184 rush, 1,695 yards, 15 TD; 14 rec, 279 yards, TD

 

DB Johnny Shaw – No. 13 West Orange-Stark (21-3A)

Overall: 10-1 District: 6-0

Last week: West Orange-Stark cruised to a 61-7 win over Columbia. A tight 21-7 game at the half quickly turned into a rout for West Orange-Stark with 26 third-quarter points.

3AD1 Regional round: Jasper 8-3 (3-1); Friday at Turner Stadium (Humble)

DT Bryce English – No. 2 DeSoto (7-5A)

Overall: 12-0 District: 7-0

Last week: English and the DeSoto Eagles edged Coppell in one of the best area games in the state over the weekend. DeSoto trailed 30-20 with under 10 minutes to go, but two touchdowns, including one with only 41 seconds sent the Eagles to the regional round of the playoffs.

WR Reggie Hemphill – No. 10 Manvel (22-5A)

Overall: 10-1 District: 7-0

Last week: Manvel stopped a potential game-tying two-point conversion attempt by Fort Bend Bush with 1:39 to go and added a last-minute touchdown to escape the area round with a 51-44 win. Hemphill’s only contribution was a two-point conversion reception on the final score.

5AD2 Regional round: vs. Houston Memorial 8-4 (5-2); Saturday at Mercer Stadium (Sugar Land)

Season: 23 rec, 471 yards, 9 TD

 

ELIMINATED FROM PLAYOFFS

RB Donald Catalon – Aldine Eisenhower (18-5A)
Overall: 4-7 District 4-2
Bi-District round: Down 24-9 midway through the third quarter, Eisenhower mounted a comeback but fell one point shy, falling to Houston Cypress Ridge 24-23. Catalon rushed 22 times for 161 yards and Eisenhower’s final touchdown with 9:59 left in the game – a two-point conversion was not attempted.
Season: 123 rush, 765 yards 7 TD; 17 rec, 311 yards, 2 TD

LB Cameron Hampton – Dallas Carter (11-4A)
Overall: 9-2 District: 7-0
Bi-District round: The unbeaten winner of district 11-4A went down in the first round, 30-13, to Dallas Lincoln. The 30 points against was a season high for a defense that held district opponents to under 10 points per contest this year.

DT Trey Lealaimatafao – San Antonio Warren (27-5A)
Overall: 9-3 District: 7-1
Area round: Warren’s season came to a close with a 50-15 loss to Converse Judson. Lealaimatafao and the Warriors hadn’t lost since back-to-back defeats in early September, but Judson  ran up 402 yards of total offense, 338 of them on the ground.
Season: 54 tackles, 7 TFL

 

WR Emanuel Porter – Dallas Lincoln (12-4A)
Overall: 8-4 District: 6-1
Area round: Porter contributed 51 yards on 3 receptions, but Frisco scored the final 17 points of the game to edge Lincoln 24-21 in the second round of the 4A Division 2 playoffs.
Season: 40 rec, 651 yards, 7 TD

 

2015

ATH Keke Coutee – Lufkin (14-5A)

Overall: 9-4 District: 5-1

Last week: Coutee had 51 yards on 12 total touches in Lufkin’s season-ending 42-24 loss to Humble Atascocita in the opening weekend of the 5A Division II playoffs.

Eliminated in Bi-District round

Season: 73 rec, 994 yards, 8 TD; 9 rush, 35 yareds

OL Connor Lanfear – Buda Hays (27-4A)

Overall: 9-3 District: 6-1

Area round: Lanfear and the Hays Rebels were bounced from the playoffs by Rouse in a 35-10 loss to Leander Rouse. The Rebels were held to just 18 rushing yards on 30 attempts in the loss.

DB Jalen Campbell – Corpus Christi Flour Bluff (31-4A)

Overall: 10-2 District: 7-0

Area round: Flour Bluff, who played without Jalen Campbell all season due to a torn ACL, lost its area round matchup with Port Lavaca Calhoun, 27-21.

FAILED TO QUALIFY FOR PLAYOFFS

2014

LB Otaro Alaka – Cy Falls (17-5A)
Overall: 2-8 District: 2-7
Season recap: Falls finished ninth in the ten-team 17-5A district. The Eagles, expected to have a dominant defense and finish second in the district by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football, allowed a district-worst 331 points this fall.

DE Sione Teuhema – Keller (4-5A)
Overall: 5-5 District: 2-5
Season recap: After finishing last season strong, Keller got off to a horrid 1-4 start to district play in 2013. Despite having four-star Sione and 2015 five-star Maea Teuhema, the Indians finished in sixth place in 4-5A.

DL Jake McMillon – Abilene (2-5A)
Overall: 3-7 District: 3-5
Season recap: Abilene missed the playoffs for the first time since 1999 after digging themselves into a 1-4 hole to start district play. The young Eagles won two of their final three, but a two-point loss at Midland prevented a possible tie-break scenario for the final 2-5A playoff spot.
Season stats: 29 tackles, 1 sack, 1 INT

WR Garrett Gray – Marble Falls (25-4A)
Overall: 4-6 District: 2-4
Season recap: The Mustangs put up a good fight in the tough 25-4A district, but they came two points shy of the fourth playoff spot in a win-and-in final regular season game against Leander. Gray had a marvelous season, leading Central Texas in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns.
Season: 75 rec, 1,191 yards, 16 TD; 15 rush, 94 yards, 4 TD

WR Roderick Bernard – Houston Sharpstown (21-4A)
Overall: 5-5 District: 4-4
Season recap: The young Apollos didn’t live up to the second-place prediction of DCTF. Sharpstown lost two of its final four games and lost out on the playoffs to Waltrip on a tie break. Bernard finished ninth in 21-4A with 364 receiving yards and eighth in the district with 594 rushing yards.
Season stats: 24 rec, 364 yards, 2 TD; 60 rush, 594 yards, 4 TD

S Jason Hall – South Grand Prairie (7-5A)
Overall: 4-6 District: 2-5
Season recap: The Warriors just weren’t’ up to snuff this season in the tough 7-5A district. They finished the season off strong with back-to-back wins, but an 0-5 start to district play was way too much to overcome. Three of South Grand Prairie’s five district losses came by one score.

2015

 

OL  Aaron Garza – Sherman (13-4A)

Overall: 4-6 District: 3-4

Season recap: Dave Campbell’s Texas Football pegged Sherman for the No. 2 team in 13-4A, but a 1-2 start to district play coupled with a 1-2 finish kept the Bearcats out of the playoffs.
