Charlie Strong has to hope every day is this successful as the head coach of the Texas Longhorns. On the same day as he took the practice field for the first time in burnt orange, the new head Longhorn landed the eighth member of UT’s 2015 recruiting class – Rockwall-Heath’s Deshon Elliott.
Listed at 6-1, 200 pounds, Elliot is projected to play either outside linebacker or safety at the next level. He picked up a Texas offer when he attended the Feb. 22 junior day. Tuesday, he made his choice official through his Twitter account.

At Rockwall-Heath, Elliott is a hard-hitting safety on a defense that gave up 16.8 points per game in 2013.
Elliott is the third 2015 recruit to commit to Texas since Charlie Strong took over – offensive lineman Ronnie Major and defensive end Charles Omenihu both pledged to the Longhorns after visiting during UT’s first junior day.
The three-star recruit, ranked 45th in the state of Texas by 247Sports Composite, held offers from Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and others. He is currently UT’s third-highest rated pledge in the 2015 class.
