Incoming freshman Myles Turner and the rest of his Longhorn teammates best be ready next season. It was announced Wednesday that Texas will play at Kentucky on Dec. 5 next season as part of the Big 12/SEC challenge.
The Longhorns and Wildcats have met only once, with Kentucky winning 86-61 in the Maui Invitational on Dec. 21, 1993.
This now means that coach Rick Barnes’ team will face both the defending national champion and the national runner-up next season in games that are less than a week apart. Texas was already scheduled to play at UConn on Nov. 30.
Barnes and Kentucky coach John Calipari are close friends and talk regularly. Both teams were already penciled into the preseason top 10 in the NBC Sports’ Way-Too-Early Top 25.
