UPDATE, 8:50 p.m. _ West Virginia running back Charles Sims was selected by Tampa Bay in the third round, with the 69th overall pick, of the NFL draft.

He’s the second Big 12 offensive player to go in the draft and only the fourth league player selected.

EARLIER _ Texas Tech’s Jace Amaro, who was the most productive tight end in NCAA history, was selected with the 49th pick of the NFL draft by the New York Jets.

Amaro is the first offensive player from the Big 12 Conference to hear his name. Two defensive backs _ Oklahoma State’s Justin Gilbert and TCU’s Jasom Verrett _ were selected Thursday in the first round.

The NFL is conducting rounds two and three Friday night. The first Texas Longhorn to be selected should be defensive end Jackson Jeffcoat.

Amaro caught 106 passes for 1,352 yards last fall.
