Louisiana DB to announce tonight
Posted July 8th, 2014
Xavier Lewis, one of the top prospects in the state of Louisiana, will announce his college decision tonight on ESPNU, and the Texas Longhorns are in the mix.
While home-state LSU is the favorite to land the four-star cornerback out of Reserve (La.) East St. John, he is expected to choose between LSU, Texas, Oklahoma State and Arkansas. Typically it’s very difficult for any team outside Louisiana’s borders to take elite kids from the Tigers. However, Lewis, who’s in Oregon this week for The Opening, has already committed and de-committed from LSU, making tonight’s 7:00 CT announcement worth watching.
After reopening his recruitment in early February, Lewis visited Texas for a junior day on Feb. 22. All reports are Texas made a positive impression on the 6-foot-0, 175-pound defensive back.
Still, despite a late push from UT’s defensive-minded staff, getting Lewis out of bayou country is a longshot. All of the 18 recruitniks who’ve weighed in on 247Sports’ Crystal Ball feature predict he will stay home and attend LSU.
Lewis is rated as the 8th-best player overall in the state of Louisiana and N0. 155 in the country by 247Sports composite ratings.
