As he was last year, Dominic Espinosa is on the Rimington Trophy watch list for the nation’s top center.
Espinosa, a fifth-year senior from Cedar Park, is among 66 players up for the award. Yes, more than half of FBS teams and their centers are represented on the list. Does that make the list pointless? Probably. But it’s July and we’re hungry for football. Deal with it.
Espinosa is a worthy selection, having started 39 games over three years. An honorable mention Big 12 selection by the league’s coaches last year, Espinosa is tasked with anchoring a line riddled with question marks. Espinosa, along with running back Malcolm Brown and cornerback Quandre Diggs, will accompany coach Charlie Strong this month in Dallas at Big 12 media days.
Speaking of Brown, he and Jonathan Gray were named to the Maxwell Award watch list on Monday, the same day Diggs, Malcom Brown, and Cedric Reed were recognized by the Bednarik Award.
