The Longhorns volleyball team is ranked second to Penn State in the American Volleyball Coaches Association preseason poll.
Texas received 11 first place votes, second to the Nittany Lions’ 32. Rounding out the top 10 are Stanford, Washington, Southern California, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Purdue, BYU, and Florida.
Texas has opened the past eight seasons ranked in the top five.
Kansas, at No. 22, is the Big 12’s only other ranked team. Oklahoma and Iowa State are receiving votes.
The three-time defending Big 12 champion Longhorns open the season Aug. 23 with the Orange vs. White scrimmage. Games start counting Aug. 29 when Texas plays UTEP and New Mexico in the University of New Mexico Tournament.
