Multiple Texas coaches are getting updated contracts next week, according to the UT System Board of Regents meeting agenda that was posted online Friday.
Men’s basketball coach Rick Barnes’ contract status will be discussed, according to the agenda. He’s currently signed for three more seasons. Barnes’ club is projected to be a top-10 team this fall, possibly even top-five now that prized freshman Myles Turner has enrolled.
Baseball coach Augie Garrido had already agreed to a two-year extension on his current deal, which should get final approval. Garrido would then be signed through the 2017 baseball season.
Several other coaches are getting slight raises and extensions, pending approval by the UT regents. Swimming coach Eddie Reese’s new contract will run through August 2017. Men’s golf coach John Fields will have a contract that runs through August 2019.
It also appears UT athletic director Steve Patterson is backing men’s tennis coach Michael Center, who had his facility torn down to make way for the Dell Medical Center. Center is getting what is described as a 21 percent raise and will have a guaranteed compensation base of $190,000. He’ll also be signed through August 2019.
The men’s and women’s tennis teams are moving to the courts at 51st and Guadalupe Streets until the school builds a replacement for the Penick-Allison Tennis Center. UT regents have already approved $15 million to build a new facility.
New women’s rowing coach Dave O’Neill will have his contract approved as well, according to the agenda. O’Neill will have a guaranteed package of $175,000 that runs through July 2020.
