Missouri update

The Tigers broke a three game losing streak by defeating BYU 78-69 in a first-round tournament game Monday night. Missouri shot 57 percent from the field. Sophie Cunningham contributed 20 points, five rebounds and three steals while Jordan Frericks added 19 points and a game-high nine boards. The Tigers improved their tournament record to 5-9. It came exactly 15 years since their last victory in the NCAAs.  Head coach Robin Pingeton earned her first career NCAA Tournament victory as a head coach. She is 1-2 all-time in the NCAA Tournament after previously leading Illinois State to two appearances.

Texas update

The Longhorns defeated Alabama State 86-42 in a first-round matchup on Saturday. Texas improved to 36- 27 (.571) all­‐time in NCAA Tournament games, including an 11‐4 mark when the team is a No. 2 seed. The 44-margin of victory tied the all-time UT record for largest blowout (90-46 over Hampton in 2003). The Longhorns held the Hornets to 22.2 percent shooting, the lowest offensive percentage for a UT opponent this year. Brooke McCarty scored 13 points, the 22nd time in 33 games she has scored in double figures. As for Missouri, a former Big 12 opponent, the Horns hold a 22-2 all-time edge in the series.
