Texas college football fandom, mapped
Posted September 16th, 2015
Are the Longhorns in the AP Top 25? No.
Are three other Texas teams? Yes.
But the hearts of the geographic majority of the Lone Star State belong to the University of Texas, according to a new study.
To identify where loyalties lie, the Remington Research Group conducted 1,900 interviews by telephone with college football fans in Texas this past summer.
Below is a sneak peek of their results. You can find the full report online.

It should be noted that though geographically Texas is burnt orange, the numbers tell a less dramatic story. The study found that just 32 percent identify as Longhorn fans.
Aggies make up 16 percent; Texas Tech boasts 6.8 percent; Baylor Bears claim 7.3 percent of Texas college football fan territory; 6.7 percent stand behind the TCU Horned Frogs; and a whopping 19 percent aren’t sure where their loyalties lie.
Correction: A previous version of this post used an outdated AP Top 25 list. The post has now been updated to reflect that three, not four, Texas teams are currently included in the AP Top 25.
