Texas to meet Baylor in Big 12 tournament opener at 11:30 a.m. Thursday

Posted March 5th, 2016

The Big 12 regular season came to a close on Saturday, and what lies ahead may be the toughest conference tournament in America.

No. 4 seed Texas (20-11) will face No. 5 Baylor (21-10) in the quarterfinal round at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Sprint Center in Kansas City, Mo. The winner will likely meet top-seeded Kansas in the semifinals.

Coach Shaka Smart’s club closed out the regular season with a 62-50 win over Oklahoma State on Friday. The Baylor Bears finished the regular season on Saturday with a 69-58 home loss to West Virginia.

The Longhorns and Bears split the regular-season series this year. Texas won 67-59 in Waco. Then, the Bears came to Austin and walloped the Horns, 78-64.

“At the end of the day, they don’t like us and we don’t like them,” Baylor’s Taurean Prince said on Feb. 20. “But I guess we agree to disagree. We knew they beat us at home, so we had to get one here. We couldn’t let them sweep us.”
