No. 10 Longhorns in ninth place after second round of U.S. Collegiate

The Texas men’s golf team shot 4-over par in the second round of the U.S. Collegiate Championship on Saturday in Alpharetta, Georgia and is in ninth place at 8-over par.

The Longhorns shot 4-over par in the opening round and trail leader Wake Forest by 15 strokes heading into the final round.

“Our first two days have been a challenge” said Texas head coach John Fields. “As defending champions, we have a lot to play for both as a team and individually.”

The third-ranked Demon Deacons shot 3-under par in the second round and hold a one shot lead over second-ranked Auburn.

Auburn’s Will Long shot a 4-under-par 68 in the second round and is in the lead at 8-under par. Demon Deacon Cameron Young is a shot behind in second place after carding a 3-under-par 69.

Texas junior Beau Hossler was 1 over par through nine holes, then had three birdies and a bogey to finish with a 1-under-par 71. Hossler is in a three-way tie for eighth place at 3-under par.

UT’s Dough Ghim had four bogeys through eight holes, but birdied three straight down the stretch to finish tied for 25th place at 1-over par. Texas’ Scottie Scheffler also shot a 71 on Saturday and is tied for 27th at 2-over par.

Longhorn Gavin Hall shot a second-round 75 and sophomore Taylor Funk shot a 78.
