Texas men’s golf team tied for eighth place in Las Vegas

The sixth-ranked Texas men’s golf team is six strokes off the lead after shooting 8 over par in the opening round of the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters on Monday in Las Vegas.

No. 2 Florida tops the team leaderboard at 2 over par followed by Arizona State at 3 over. SMU and Southern Cal are tied for third at 4 over par. Texas is in a three-way tie for eighth place after carding a 296.

UT’s Doug Ghim had three bogeys and eagled the par-4 sixteenth hole to finish at 1 over par. Ghim is tied for thirteenth place, four shots off the lead. UNLV’s Taylor Montgomery, Sundevil Jon Rahm and Florida’s Sam Horsfield are tied for first at 3 under par.


Longhorn Beau Hossler shot a 2-over par 74 and is tied for 25th place. The top-ranked junior double bogeyed the par-5 ninth, bogeyed the tenth and got a stroke back with a birdie on the par-4 fifteenth. Hossler has shot over par just twice in thirteen rounds this season.

Longhorn Scottie Scheffler is tied with Hossler after making two birdies on the front nine then bogeying four holes on the back nine. Texas’ Taylor Funk is tied for 35th place at 3 over par and Gavin Hall shot 5 over par and is tied for 57th place.
