Hall in first place at Valspar Collegiate, Texas leads by 10 strokes

UT’s Gavin Hall shot 5-under par through two rounds and helped Texas build a 10-stroke lead at the Valspar Collegiate on Monday  in Palm City, Florida.

Hall carded a 2-under 69 and a 3-under 68 and holds a three-stoke lead heading into the final round. Jordan Niebrugge of Oklahoma State and LSU’s Zach Wirght are tied for second at 2 under par.

Hall had four birdies and two bogeys in the first round and rolled in six birdies with three bogeys in the second round. Hall and four other players carded low rounds of 68.


The Longhorns shot a 283 and a 287 and are at 2 over par. LSU is in second at 12 over par followed by Oklahoma State at 15 over par. The 15 team field features 10 teams that are ranked in the Golf Week Top 25. No. 1 Illinois is tied for seventh at 22 over par and second ranked Florida is in last place at 43 over par.

Texas sophomores Taylor Funk and Doug Ghim  finished at 2-over par and are tied for 13th place. UT’s Beau Hossler is tied for 16th at 4 over par after shooting a 72 and a 74.  Scottie Scheffler followed a even par 71 with a 76 and is tied for 29th place at 6 over.

The Longhorns will play the final round alongside the Tigers and the Cowboys on Tuesday at 7:45 a.m.
