Posted January 17th, 2017

Texas freshman tennis player Bianca Turati was named the Big 12 women’s tennis player of the week the conference announced on Tuesday.

Over the weekend, Turati claimed four match wins and defeated a top-75 opponent on her way to a co-championship title at the National Collegiate Tennis Classic in Palm Springs, Calif.

She’s undefeated at 7-0 in her career, including a 6-2, 7-5 defeat of No. 67 Emma Higuchi. Turati also had a win as a doubles partner, picking up a victory with Katie Poluta against Arizona last weekend.

“Bianca had a vicious day of competition and showed her mettle with wins over excellent players from Stanford and USC,” Texas coach Howard Joffe said of Turati’s weekend performance. “It’s a nice way for Bianca to ring in the new year.”

The freshman will next turn her attention to the ITA Kick-Off Weekend being held in Chapel Hill, N.C. beginning on Jan. 28.
