Posted May 31st, 2018

Texas sophomore Bianca Turati is a nominee for the Honda Sport Award for Tennis, the Collegiate Women Sports Awards announced Thursday.

Turati, one of four nominees, was the Big 12 player of the year and was the top seed of the singles draw of the NCAA Championships. She will earn All-America honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association next month as a result of her seeding.

The Honda Award has been in existence for 42 years and is presented to the top women’s athletes in 12 NCAA-santioned sports. The CWSA will name this year’s recipients next week.

The winners of the awards in each sport are eligible for the title of Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year. The CWSA will be present that award in Los Angeles on June 25.

Turati went 28-4 in singles competition and held the top ranking for nearly three months this season. She became the first Longhorn to earn the No. 1 ranking in singles since Kelly Pace did so in 1995.

Texas finished No. 6 at the end of the season, their highest season-ending ranking since 2005.
