Bianca Turati notched another victory at the International Tennis Federation pro circuit event in Hilton Head Island, S.C. Friday, completing a comeback win to advance to the event’s semifinals.
The junior All-American defeated Allura Zamarripa 6-7 (7-4), 6-3, 6-3 in a three-hour, 16 minute match. Turati next takes on Justina Mikulskyte of Lithuania Saturday.
After the first set went to Zamarripa, Turati took a 3-1 lead in the second set. She held serve to clinch the second set.
Turati built a 4-2 lead in the final set and closed out the match with her 11th service break of the day.
Turati is coming off a season in which she compiled a 28-4 singles record and earned the Big 12 conference player of the year award. She finished the year as the No. 3 player in the Oracle/ITA Division I singles rankings. Turati currently holds the No. 1 spot in the preseason women’s collegiate national singles rankings.
