The second-ranked Texas men’s golf team moved up to seventh place after shooting ten over par in the second round of the Olympia Fields Fighting Illini Invitational on Saturday in Olympia Fields, Illinois.
The Longhorns started the second round in 11th place after shooting ten over on Friday. The Horns are tied with Alabama at 20 over par and are 15 shots behind leader Stanford. The Cardinal shot four over par in the second round and is in the lead at five over. No 19. Oklahoma State is tied with third-ranked Florida State in second place at seven over.
Stanford’s Maverick McNealy followed his opening round 67 with a 65 and is in the lead at eight under par. Thomas Detry shot a 74 after carding a course record 63 in the first round and is in second place at three under par.
Texas’ Doug Ghim had one birdie and a double bogey to finish at one over par and is tied for fourth at one under.
Longhorn Gavin Hall shot an even par 70 in the second round after carding a 79 in the opening round and is tied for 49th at nine over.
Scottie Scheffler shot a three over par73 and is at seven over par and teammate Tayler Termeer is a shot behind after shooting a 76 in the second round.
