UT’s Addison advances to semifinals at Rice Invitational

UT’s Breaunna Addison advanced to the semifinals of the main singles draw at the Rice Invitational Friday in Houston.

Addison opened the tournament with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Texas State’s Pippa Carr and defeated UT Arlington’s Elizabeth Thoms in the quarterfinals, 7-6 (3), 6-0.  Addison will play  Rice’s Katherine Ip in the semifinals on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.

Texas had nine singles victories Friday and two doubles wins.


UT’s Lana Groenvynck and Pippa Horn lost in the “flight 2” quarterfinals after picking up wins in the round of 16. Groenvynck lost to UT-San Antonio’s Jacobea Junger 6-3, 6-4 and Horn fell to UT-Arlington’s De Los Rios 6-2, 6-2.

Longhorn Chelsea Crovetti defeated Texas State’s Birkenstock 6-3, 6-1 in the “flight 4” singles quarter finals.


Men’s tennis: Texas had three singles wins and a doubles victory Friday at Porsche Napa Valley Tennis Classic in St. Helena, California. UT’s Harrison Scott, Liam Caruana and Michael Riechmann advanced to the second round the round-robin singles tournament.
