Texas senior Breaunna Addison advanced to the round of 16 at the ITA Texas Regional Championships with a victory over TCU’s Seda Arantekin in straight sets Friday in College Station.
Addison defeated Arantekin 6-2, 6-2 and will face Texas Tech’s Alexandra Valenstein in the round of 16 at 8 a.m. Saturday. The two-time All-American had a first-round bye and beat Texas-El Paso’s Eduarda Nardi dos Santos 6-4, 7-5 in the round of 64.
Texas Tech’s Sarah Dvorak eliminated UT’s Lana Groenvynck in the round of 32 with a 6-4, 6-4 straight-set victory.
Groenvynck had defeated Texas-San Antonio’s Meredith Hopson 6-4, 6-1 in the first round and then had beaten Lamar’s Talisa Merchiers 6-0, 6-2 to advance.
The winners of the singles and doubles draws at the event earn automatic bids into next month’s USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships in New York.
Men’s tennis: The Texas men’s team will resume its fall schedule Saturday at the ITA Texas Regional Championships at Rice in Houston. The tournament will run through Tuesday.
Longhorns William Jou, Michael Riechmann, Adrian Ortiz, Harrison Scott, Johnny Goodwin, George Goldhoff, Julian Zlobinsky, Liam Caruana and John Mee will participate.
