UT’s Adrian Ortiz won the first set against Tulane’s Chi-Shan Jao, but dropped the next two to fall in three sets in the singles draw final at the Country Club of Birmingham Collegiate Invitational on Sunday in Alabama.
Ortiz took the first set 6-2 then lost 6-3 and 6-4.
The sophomore from Ensenada, Mexico had three singles victories at the event and won the doubles draw with freshman Julian Zlobinsky. Ortiz defeated Middle Tennessee State’s Ayed Zatar 6-4, 6-1 in the first round and eliminated Tam Trinh in the quarterfinals 6-4, 6-2. He beat South Alabama’s Tuki Jacobs in the semifinals, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 to reach the final.
