The Texas Longhorns softball team dropped their third straight Big 12 contest to start the season as they fell in the series opener with Texas Tech 3-2 at Red & Charline McCombs Field on Friday night.

Tiarra Davis (14-8) took the loss for Texas (25-10, 0-3 Big 12) as she allowed three runs on six hits with seven strikeouts in a complete game. Her wild pitch in the top of the seventh allowed Camaury Washington to score the go-ahead run.

The Red Raiders (19-19, 4-0) got on the scoreboard early by virtue of a single from Kiani Ramsey who scored on an RBI double from Kierra Miles later in the inning.

Texas picked up its two runs in the third inning off of RBI doubles by Davis and Holly Kern. Davis drove home Stephanie Wong to tie the game and Kern drove in Devon Tunning to give the Longhorns their only lead of the game. Kern was the only Longhorn with multiple hits in the game as she finished 2 for 3.

A fielder’s choice RBI by Ramsey tied the game in the fifth inning at two runs apiece.

Mattison Maisel picked up the win for Texas Tech, allowing two runs on six hits in 5 1/3 innings of work.

The Longhorns will try again for their first conference win of the season on Saturday at 1 p.m. as they play the second game of the three-game series with the Red Raiders.
