Posted April 16th, 2016
UT’s Kelli Hanzel hit a three-run homer with one out in the top of the seventh inning, but a ground out and a strikeout ended the rally and Oklahoma defeated Texas 5-3 to complete the sweep of the Longhorns Saturday in Norman.
The Sooners (34-7) have swept their past two conference series and sit in first place in the Big 12 at 9-1. Texas (27-13) dropped to 2-6 in Big 12 play.
Oklahoma’s Kelsey Stevens allowed one hit through three innings and Paige Parker (20-3) threw three no-hit innings until the rally in the seventh.
OU’s Caleigh Clifton hit a two-run single off Tiarra Davis in the third inning and the Sooners scored two more in the fourth on a double and a single. Kristen Clark replaced Davis in the fourth and gave up an RBI-single that put Oklahoma up 5-0.
Davis allowed five runs on eight hits with no strikeouts and walked three batters.
UT’s Holly Kern hit a single in the first and Texas didn’t notch another hit until Devoin Tunning led off the seventh with a bunt single. After a lineout, Stephanie Ceo reached base on a bunt and Hanzel followed with a three-run homer off Parker. Lindsey Stephens drew a walk after the homer, but was thrown out on a fielder’s choice. The rally ended with a strikeout by Kern.
