FRISCO — A Big 12 media days takeaway from Monday:
Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby showed up with his game face on.
When asked about any concerns of a round-robin schedule leading to a possible championship game rematch in a short span, Bowlsby was strong in his defense: “For the record, 33 of the championship games have been rematches. So the rematch is not aberrational. It happens very regularly. And ours is going to be a rematch.”
Not only did he have his numbers with him, but his praise of the league was beyond effusive, which is no surprise considering what he does for a living.
Bowlsby, who said he expects to sign a contract extension through 2025, has always exuded confidence. But on Monday he wore the look of a commissioner intent on bringing a national championship to the league for the first time since Texas beat USC back in the day.
“I know that top to bottom, we’re the best in the country in terms of balance and I know that the method by which we conduct our championships and conduct our regular season is the most difficult because you never miss anybody.”
